About Rachel
Representative Rachel Burgin was elected to District 56, which comprises parts of Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, Seffner, Valrico, Gibsonton and Lithia, in the Florida House of Representatives. In November of 2008, she was the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Florida House of Representatives. Re-elected subsequently, Representative Burgin has years of experience in local, state and federal government.
Representative Burgin began her political career diligently working on grassroots campaigns throughout central Florida. She later worked as an aide to a Hillsborough County Commissioner before joining the Florida House of Representatives as a legislative aide. During the summer of 2008, Burgin traveled to our nation’s capitol to work in the White House Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.
Community involvement has always been important to Burgin. She is currently affiliated with the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, Greater Seffner/Mango Chamber of Commerce and Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. She is also a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Hillsborough County Republican Executive Committee, Plant City Federated Republican Women, the National Rifle Association, and she is an advocate for the pregnancy care centers throughout Hillsborough County.
In the Florida House of Representatives, Representative Burgin serves as Vice Chair of Agriculture & Natural Resources Subcommittee. She has served on committees related to the education of Florida’s children throughout her terms in office. Currently, she serves on the K-20 Competitiveness Subcommittee and has been acknowledged for her efforts to improve educational opportunities in Florida. The Independent Colleges & Universities of Florida named her an “ICUF Guardian of Independent Higher Education for 2010.”
She also serves on the Congressional Redistricting Subcommittee, State Affairs Committee, Insurance & Banking Subcommittee, Transportation & Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee and the Rules & Calendar Subcommittee.
Burgin has a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies. She grew up in, rural area of eastern Hillsborough County and now resides in Riverview, a few miles from her original home.
